The high speed is one of the visiting cards of Finnish stages of World Rally Championship. According to statistics, the nine of the ten fastest race of WRC are Finnish races.
Another visiting card is a lot of jumps on the race route. And the legendary SS Ouninpohja takes rank as the special stage with the most number of jumps. It should also be stated that there are both, wide sections on the rally roads and narrow ones. Moreover it is known by previous years experience that the weather can make its contribution to the chapter of race.
All of these facts demand full concentration of the participants. In Finland, maybe nowhere else except here, the crews have no time to be able to reclaim even a little error.
During four race days the crew will overcome 334 kilometers of 24 special stages and 1034 kilometers of road sections. The altitude of suspense in the race will be allotted to Saturday. It will be the longest day – with 151 kilometers of special stages (147 kilometers on Friday), and the most difficult day at least due to two pass of 33-kilometers SS Ouninpohja. And what is more important is that the organizers of the race have changed nearly half (43%) of last year route.
«The fact that the organizers seriously renewed the route didn’t influence the difficulty of the race notably. The Finland never was an easy race and it will not be easy one this time. Apropos at this time we will pass Ouninpohja inversely, but it is not the cause to talk about extra complications. We just know what tomorrow holds because two years ago we passed this stage in same direction», – said Vladimir Korsia, Eurolamp WRT co-driver, after recce sessions.
«It isn’t easy to mark the most challenged stages – the race will be difficult from the start to the finish. And we must have full concentration, not to make mistakes and be on the road every time…»
