Rally Poland 2017. In search of compromise
    02.07.2017

Comparing to previous days on Rally Poland Saturday was a perfect day. The roads were drying very quickly, so the crews were increasing their pace. As a result probability of crew’s errors and technical issues was increasing too. Therefore the day was not so perfect from the perspective of problem absence.

The leaders of the general rally classification were in trouble most of all. Sebastien Ogier had some engine problems and was the victim of tyre flat twice. Moreover when French was running after second puncture he once lost control of the car and seriously destroyed car’s back part because of hitting against a track shoulder. Technical issues forced Jari-Matti Latvala to drop out the fight for the win. Thierry Neuville had a tyre puncture too. Meanwhile Ott Tanak’s car lost rear wing, as a result the Estonian was suffering with lack of downforce during the most part of the day…

At the same time races in WRC Trophy category had more quiet scenario. Valerii Gorban and Sergey Larens again were quicker than theirs rivals on all the special stages except the one – superspecial stage in Mikolajki which was closing the day. As a result Ukrainian team duo strengthened their dominating position. The french Jean-Michel Raoux drops to Valerii Gorban more than 11 minutes, further the greek Jourdan Serderidis drops another 11 minutes to Jean-Michel Raoux. However only externally everything seemed quiet and calm. “On the track today there were both dry sectors and damp ones. Moreover there were deep puddles here and there. In such conditions it was very important to find compromise between hazardous risk and abundance of caution and do not lose concentration. During morning section our car was very close to be engulfed in dich, and if we weren’t be ready to respond to any emergencies it would be the end of our rally…” – told Sergey Larens, Eurolamp WRT co-driver.

“Of course today was easier day than yesterday. And we can be satisfied by current results. But the rally will end only tomorrow. And we know very well how a successful finish can escape during last instant of time. So on the last four special stages of the rally we will do our best to not to let down our team and our fans” – added Valerii Gorban, Eurolamp WRT driver.

For Sunday the rally organizers have prepared four special stages 60 kilometers length, included 18-kilometers Power Stage. In the meanwhile forecasters are telling about rainy weather comeback.
