Eurolamp WRT did not succeed in driving well during the first day of Saaremaa Ralli. Although the champion title was its for the taking, the final-day challenge was to rise as high as possible in the final classification.
On the second high-speed section of the day, Valery Gorban and Sergei Larens managed to leapfrog the crews of Egon Kaur and Ken Torn. Ukrainian-Estonian duo claimed its place on the second line in the overall standings. There was the only one crew ahead – the one of Georg Gross, and no one could longer influence the odds of the championship.
All the things were going Eurolamp WRT’s way up to the last special section. Mini JCW WRC engine lost its power partially and the crew had to finish the race losing its time. It became evident at the finish that the top place went to opponents.
Valery Gorban and Sergei Larens finished Saaremaa Ralli on the fourth place in the overall standings. Still, they have the title of overall champion of Estonian Rally 2018 to their credit.
The next-day challenge was no less difficult. It was necessary to double the title, but already in Latvian Championship being in its high gear in the west of the country.
